Top ways you can increase your web presence with Google Analytics2 minute read

I already use Google Analytics! You say, but many of us who use Google Analytics are guilty of only scratching the surface of this wonderful tool. When you take a look at your analytics, you are probably only looking at your overall traffic and other colorful graphs and end up with no insights as to how to improve your website. Here is a list of things you could do to change that:

1.       Check out where your audience is coming from by using the map overlay feature:

The country view is fairly useless for insights, but the city level map overlay could be really helpful for information about your audience. For example, if you are Canada-based but the majority of your traffic is coming from New York, you probably want to touch up your business to cater to the right clients.

2.       If they visit your website, make sure they are coming again:

You can use cookies or referrer information to show you different types of visitors; if you don’t have a lot of returning customers on your website, you may have to modify your website to retain the interest of visitors.

3.      Leave a great first impression:

Make sure your landing page is clean and eye-catching with a great Call-to-Action: this is a great way for people to stay on your website and potentially increase your revenue.

4.      Learn which websites your visitors are coming from:

Refer websites so you will know how your potential customers are reaching your website. For example, if a website you don’t know about gives you a sudden influx of visits to your website, go check out that website and see if you can’t get the same thing to happen again.

5.      Figure out what makes people leave your website:

Modify your website according to your visitors’ tastes. If they leave your site from a page, consider touching it up to lower your bounce rate.

6.     Set goals!

Make sure you set up goals within your analytics account. You’d be surprised at the amount of people who don’t set goals – if you don’t have a goal to work towards, how will you know what you’re doing is right or not?

With these simple steps, you can harness the power of Google Analytics to improve your website!
